Closed For Business: Prime Minister orders shutdown to quell the spread of Covid-19.

All non-essential high street outlets are now closed, following a late-night proclamation by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Strict measures have been imposed on individuals and businesses, with immediate effect, restricting movement and social interactions. These involve:

  • Requiring people to stay at home, except for very limited purposes
  • Closing non-essential shops and community spaces
  • Stopping all gatherings of more than two people in public

“Every citizen must comply with these new measures,” says Downing Street. “The relevant authorities, including the police, will be given the powers to enforce them – including through fines and dispersing gatherings.”

The Government will re-assess these extraordinary steps in three weeks’ time
