Buyer picks up ‘exceptional’ Charles Stanley Peach-designed house in Little Venice

Full Article

Low-built 1929 creation by the renowned Scottish architect responsible for Wimbledon's Centre Court was asking £12.95mn. A Charles Stanley Peach-designed house in Little Venice has found a buyer after listing at £12.95mn. The Red Brick House, an “exceptional” 1929 creation by the renowned Scottish architect, is one of only a handful of large-scale low-built properties in the neighbourhood. The sheer amount of lateral space on offer – over 6,000 sq ft across just three floors – sets the property apart from its many tall Victorian neighbours, said selling agent Ian Green (who knows the house well, having sold it on three occasions in the last 25 years). The layout allows for a grand drawing room, principal suite with private terrace, another three bedrooms, staff quarters, wine cellar and a leisure complex with pool, gym and steam room. Two garages were also included.“The Red Brick House looks inconspicuous, tucked down a sleepy mews in Little Venice,” Green told PrimeResi. “From the front, a passer-by might wonder about the building. The only hint of grandeur is the arch over the subtle electronic black metal gates at the entrance.” Best known for highly elaborate industrial architecture – his speciality was electricity stations – Peach (1858-1934) also designed Wimbledon’s famous Centre Court, along with a number of important Art Deco blocks in Chelsea.
